Hostel trends!

Over the last few years the female student of Peshawar university have started adopting a particular getup. This trend is spreading like a forest fire. one feels as if you are roaming in an Arab country.

Is it just because of the ‘in vogue’ purda or is the latest fashion? Most of the girls when asked would straight away say: its fashion. I just am unable to get it. Why is this thinking intensifying so much?

In majority of the cases, it has nothing to do with covering themselves. With all my apologies, it’s the other way round. Most of them are from extremely conservative backgrounds where they are hardly allowed to even talk.

These girls don’t even wear this costume when they visit their homes. It’s a common hostel culture in the very first glance it seems as if they are trying to wear a local version of skirts. This concept needs to be changed that this particular getup isn’t the symbol of superiority which according to many is the license for it.

Hey don’t say that. They have an option of fatwas or the honor killings or Taliban or Sharia. If Im not wrong Pakistan is the place rule by Taliban, then how come girls there are without their black tents???

I have noticed this trend. But I always am of the opinion that people have the freedom to wear the dress of their choice. And I think that girls generally run after fashion trends much more frequently and passionately than guys, isn’t it?

Somana, after reading your views i have come to a conclusion that you are one narrow minded person who do not accept change. Youth will change and will adopt new things, that is natural and happens everywhere. People who understand this will accept it but who do not will go to any extent to argue.

Well im not a person interested in arguments.

I agree with Vivian.

Amongst the relatives of my father's side, no girl wear jeans but traditional Salwar suit. I studied in convents and wore western dresses since childhood, whether they like it or not.

If they don't like it, that's their problem, i never ask them what to wear and what not to.

Somana,

I agree with you but Lisa’s got a point. She’s right coz from another perspective, the hostel trend you are refering is partly bcz of the fashion trend they have adopted and for most parts it is due to the fear of Talibanization and Radicalization. If A mufti can deliver a FATWA about SMS, what do you think would they bother delivering such a harsh FATWA related to female clothing which ofcourse is their property as promulgated by them?

ikram i agree that these are fanatics and can go to any extent. but these ladies donot follow this costume when they have to go to thier villages. aren’t villages more conservative than cities???? its the so called educated people who are adopting it.

Education will and has revolutionised thought. And if a person doesnt except change then darwin theory will come into effect because its the race for the survival of the fitest! One advice, please do not mind... live and let live! You dont belong to the same stream of thought as these females to whom you refer in your post..

Those who are in favor of Bee-keepers Dress for the women of Pakistan should not ignore the fact that this so-called trend has emboldened the Taleban to a great extent. They believe that the entire women population of pakistan are behined them!! It will be extremely foolish if women have started to put on this dress as as ”trend” because they should think twice before unintentionally helping Taleban. AND those who are not living in Pakistan have not the slightest of ideas as to what it is to live under Teleban rule!!!

You know what, Ilhan Khan you got a point!! ”We Pakis” have nothing else to do, however, lemme remind you that the world hasnt gone too far either in addressing these issues!! There are 1.1 Billion hungry people in the world and NOT all of them are in Pakistan!! Mr. Khan, How is Turkey dealing with the Kurd problem? I heard that they are very poor people.

Amer,

Why are you proving Ilhan’s points in your deeds?

We really need to dig into the issue and figure out our faults. Why do our leaders need to beg? Turks don’t do so.

@ Amer,

Please help your country get rid of the bigger problems rather than involving yourself into petty discussions.
