The on going energy crisis is one of the chief problems that the public has to face in Pakistan. One of the fundamental reasons for this is that new dams are not being constructed to meet the increased consumption of power. So many projects have been proposed for the construction of new dams but so far no concrete measures have been taken.
Every government holds a series of meetings and media focuses on it for quite some time and then its done and dusted. Proper planning has been done, paper work for mega projects is complete, only implementation is to be done. Governments change, media gets a brand new hot topic of discussion and so it goes on. This is a serious matter and immediate and appropriate action has to be taken to meet the increased power requirements.
The other problem, in my opinion is the lack of concern to work on different energy sources instead of depending on hydal power only. Pakistan has huge deposits of coal and that can prove to be very efficient both in terms of time and money. It will be a prompt and cheaper way to overcome the energy short fall. Instead of relying on the inadequate resources, advanced ways like atomic power plants, coal and fossil fuel should be brought into action to get rid of this power short fall.
What can be worse than 12 hours of load shedding? When are these hidden treasures of nature going to be utilized?
