Reasons, reactions and remedies

The area once known worldwide for their beauty and serenity are now under the terrible influence of dark clouds (Taliban). Without any doubt, Pakistan is passing through her darkest period. The Taliban based Shari’at and its reality became very clear in the past few days. These people have nothing to do with peace and religion. How can a bunch of sick and criminal minded people think for the betterment of others?

These are the reality bites now known to almost everyone by now. Looking at the chain of events and history of all this, it can be concluded that NWFP and Balochistan have proved as favorable hatcheries for such fanatics. Reasons for it are many but the basic problems that acted like fuel to this fire are illiteracy and poverty.

Both these provinces are very rich in natural resources. The entire country is running on the hydro power from the dams in NWFP and natural gas from Balochistan. Despite this millions are yet to be paid to these provinces from the federal governments. Apart from these many resources are yet to be explored.

The reason for the growing hatred and its exploitation by foreign enemies is that people have always been deprived of the basic needs of life. Had there been education and employment for commoners, no one would ever have indulged in any activity or would have joined hands with Taliban. Young uneducated minds are poisoned against their own country.

The growing frustration and ignorance is in the best interest of extremists. They are given money, weapons and unchecked freedom. The so-called leaders and Tribal Lords are least concerned about the poor. They only care about their share in the funding from Russia, India and Iran. Why would they allow education for the poor? If they did so would an educated mind ever agree to extremism or modern day slavery of these Lords? Not even a single person would do so.

When all the enemies, their intentions and the internal problems favoring them are known then it’s not a difficult task to fight against it. For how long are we going to let it go and be exploited? I think in bureaucracy and establishment equal representation to all the provinces and their combined in changing the policy making to tackle this situation can prove to be a positive step towards betterment.

Thinking as one nation and for this country and not as distinct tribes or provinces is the need of the hour. We already have one Afghanistan where millions have already suffered and are still suffering. Isn’t this example enough for us to learn from?

Illiteracy and unemployment breed the terrorism. If the US is serious in eliminating the terrorism from the soil of Afghanistan and Pakistan, it should address the root cause of terrorism. I am sure US will never do that as it may be a threat to US hegemony.

The discrimination the people of Swat valley are facing in Pakistan is responsible for the Talibani take over of the region there. The successive governments in Pakistan have differentiated between the people of Punjab region and NWFP, Baluchistan and Swat valley

What are you people crying for? Your own Zardari gave them place and permission to ruin your country

Take hold of him before blaming other countries for your condition

Now please don't say that Zardari is India's agent

We should strenghen democracy, the civil society and of course the education sector, otherwise we will not only fall prey to the extreamists, but also to the other hostile forces.I don’t think that Iran is supporting the Taliban,Iran itself had suffered a lot in the past because of them.

i know and same i was wondering that why would any other country support taliban when it can become a threat to them in return.

India will never support them because it is never our ideology to support any kind of religious fanatics

we ourselves are worried about their illegal infiltration in J&K

Pakistani media is blaming everything on us and as a result brainwashing its people.

Great ideas already shared but you know what?

The only solution to the menace of terrorism is to me dedicated and sincere leadership which this reagion, unfortunately, lacks.

Exactly! Pakistan lacks that 'X' factor that is needed to fight against terrorism. I don't know what their leaders are scared of. one has to take tough decisions at tough times. easy way out won't help in any way

Taleban = 3000 max, Pak Army = 700,000. You do the math!!
There is no political will to fight taleban. The existence of Pak Army is based on imaginery threats. India has never attacked pakistan unless we provoked them or created conditions for them to attack (East Pak). It seems like Pak Army wants another front on the western border so that the dollars and pounds keeps pouring in for their lavish lifestyle.

"Lavish lifestyle", come and see yourself how lavish do we live.

Saying that we love to stay under extremists to get financial aid would be an immature statement

I think the USA has changed the definition of terrorism. US has categorized the terrorism into a Muslim terrorism. There are fanatic people in USA but they can’t pick up the arms as they are living healthy life. If we could address the basic problems of the people of Pakistan and Afghanistan, terrorism will not be an issue there.

Prasad,

Well-said, but lets see who will bell the cat?

South Asians always wait for the arch angel to come down and save them and he is, in fact, to be held responsible as to why he is taking so much time in climbing down in this part of the world.
