The Rotten State of Science and Technology in Pakistan

I would amend the saying: Everything is rotten in the state of Denmark to “Everything is rotten when it comes to science and technology here.” The current state of science and technology in Pakistan is far worse than most terrible imagination.

A lot is being said about the research going on in various sectors and the unlimited finances that are poured in on the name of developmental projects which in reality, barely exist. How many of our scientists have ever done something that is worth mentioning? I hardly know anyone who has ever truly worked methodically.

There are rarely any laboratories in our educational institutions that are in functioning order and effortlessly reachable to students. In case IF BY CHANCE coincidence there is a lab, there are no instruments to work with. All the scientific work is cramped to textbooks and emphasis is on memorizing these books. There is no practical approach to it.

On top of that ALL the textbooks are borrowed from the west. The research done is almost 80% copied from somewhere and reproduced. Students of various disciplines of science follow the same trend and show least interest in practical work. It seems as if we are still in the archaic times when it comes to technology. So many projects have been planned and huge budgets allocated for these but nothing concrete is done when it comes to ground reality.

We know this very well. I doubt if Pakistan still have it's own nuclear technology. Pakistan has stolen this technology from other countries other wise they don't have that much capacity to develop the nuclear technology.

Ya rrrrritte. All the brains are taken by indians and the rest of human race is utilizing their coconuts. How we have nuclaer technology is pinching for indians, i understand.

How it can be pinching for Indians? Indians are much ahead of Pakistan in every field. You are right that rest of world is utilizing the Indian brains. you see how Indian professionals are doing in the other countries?

I have to agree with Yash, there is some truth in the fact that A.Q Khan stole the technology from N. Korea, and thats why sold it to Iran sometimes back. Anyways, there is no deficiency of great brains in Pakistan, its the system which is crappy and only serves the Elite. Pakistani students do vey well at any center of higher learning OUTSIDE of Pakistan. Pakistan spends less than 1% of its GDP on education, Malaysia 48%, you do the math!!

AQ Khan the greatest nuclear scientist of Pakistan stole the technology from other countries!!! Pakistani students might have been doing good but not so good that they could develop the sophisticated technologies.

Thanks Somana for bringing this up! What you missed is the horrific fact that som eof our so-called PhD doctors are faking research and awarding higher learning degrees to sycophant students. I exposed one such instance of fake research and - as a reward - was terminated from my job. The root problem is lack of accountablity and an objective check on what our so-called scientists are producing. As for the western text, if we could go through them with open eyes and functional brains, even the theoretical gain will enlighten us a lot.
